The Mysterious Disappearance of Leila Amond Cavett

The case of Leila Amond Cavett, a 21-year-old mother from Georgia, has been shrouded in mystery since her disappearance from Hollywood, Florida on July 25, 2020. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance are as perplexing as they are distressing, involving a self-proclaimed "witch-doctor," a wandering toddler, and a series of strange purchases.

Leila's case came to light when her two-year-old son, Kamdyn, was found wandering alone in a Miramar apartment complex, barefoot and with a soiled diaper. The discovery of the child led to a viral social media post that was eventually spotted by Leila's family in Alabama. Three days after her disappearance, Leila's vehicle was found abandoned in Hollywood, Florida. Her family was unaware that she had traveled to Florida.

Leila, who once lived in Alabama, reportedly traveled to Florida from Georgia the day before she went missing. The last person known to have contact with Leila was 38-year-old Shanon Ryan, who claimed to have known her since July 2019. Ryan stated that Leila had traveled to Florida with the intention of selling him her pickup truck for $3,000. According to Ryan, after the transaction, Leila and Kamdyn joined him in his gold Lexus and traveled to Fort Lauderdale Beach.

Ryan claimed that Leila and Kamdyn left with several men in a dark sedan from a RaceTrac gas station on the morning of July 26. However, surveillance footage from the gas station did not corroborate his story. Instead, it showed Ryan's gold Lexus leaving the gas station and later appearing at the apartment complex where Kamdyn was found.

Further investigation into Ryan's activities revealed a series of alarming purchases, including extra-large trash bags, carpet odor eliminator, and advanced-strength duct tape. A search of his Lexus found a half-empty container of cleaner with bleach, numerous black trash bags, and a white powdery substance under the front passenger seat.

Ryan's cellphone records also showed Google searches for "What day does commercial garbage pickup for Hollywood, Florida" and "Does bleach and alcohol make chloroform." RaceTrac employees reported seeing Ryan using the gas station's dumpster and noted children's toys and women's clothing inside the dumpster the day after Leila's disappearance.

In October 2020, authorities searched the Monarch Hill Landfill in Pompano Beach as part of their investigation. Despite the mounting evidence against Ryan, he has only been charged with kidnapping Kamdyn and lying to a federal officer. He has not been charged in connection with Leila's disappearance.

Leila's family continues to search for her, with her father stating, "He's everything to her. Kamdyn is her life, that's the love of her life. She's never going to leave him, never." Leila is described as standing 5 feet 3 to 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 110 to 115 pounds. She has two tattoos: the name "Kamdyn" on her upper right arm and a fish on her right wrist.

The suspect, Shannon Ryan, has been arrested, but Leila has still not been located.

The case of Leila Amond Cavett remains open, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Hollywood Police Department at (954) 967-4411, 1-800-CALL-FBI, or their local authorities. Her agency case number is 33-2007-107868. As the search continues, the hope remains that Leila will be found and reunited with her son, bringing an end to this harrowing mystery.
